Compassionate Inquiry
Compassionate Inquiry® is a psychotherapeutic approach developed by Dr. Gabor Maté
Through Compassionate Inquiry, the client can recognise the unconscious dynamics that run their lives and how to liberate themselves from them. This empowers change and agency in their lives moving forward.
“The purpose of Compassionate Inquiry is to drill down to the core stories people tell themselves – to get them to see what story they are telling themselves unconsciously; what those beliefs are, where they came from; and guide them to the possibility of letting go of those stories, or letting go of the hold those stories have on them …
That’s what Compassionate Inquiry is.”

Compassionate Inquiry with Jack

After completing my professional training in Compassionate Inquiry, I was invited to present at the Compassionate Inquiry Conference in Vancouver, presenting a workshop on Cultivating the 'Qualities of a Therapist' in an embodied practice.
In our sessions we explore together with you in charge of the pace. We use a combination of talking and somatic (feeling in the body) work to uncover unconscious beliefs, resistance and patterns that are recurring or holding us back in our lives.
To get a sense of how I work, and who I am please read the testimonials below.
I offer Compassionate Inquiry in 1-1 sessions, in group settings and in workshops.
My weekly yoga classes also include an element of Inquiry and these classes can be a fantastic additional support to 1-1 sessions, or to have some gentle support moving forwards.

Compassionate Inquiry Testimonials
“Jack is the most wonderful, sensitive, compassionate person to go to if you want to be heard and need help in understanding yourself. She is non-judgemental. She's a good listener. She has lightness in her approach. You will feel safe to grow into your authentic power.”
“If you are reading this, then you are wanting to know a bit more about Jack and what it is like to work with her. Jack has this calm, kind presence that made me feel very safe and held from the start. I quickly felt able to trust her and she welcomes whatever I bring to sessions with open arms and a playful curiosity. We go into some deep, deep stuff but there is a lightness to the space she holds that means it doesn't feel so hard. She is also honest about her own process and her (relevant) self-disclosure about her own experiences or if she is triggered enables me to know I am not alone. It's not like experiences I have had before with therapy, working with people who "have the answers" or with a power imbalance from their therapist badge. We explore together and she enables me to go back to events that left an imprint, reprocess those events and challenge those core beliefs that were formed - trusting the wisdom of my body and the answers I have within me. She is an expert at guiding me to connect with my feelings, even when I want to stay in my head and reason it all out. She is not afraid to beautifully hold any emotions that surface and allow the space and time I need to process them. I love working with Jack and she is helping me to change how I feel and my reaction to the world around me today. Give it a go!!!”
“Jack's Compassionate Enquiry sessions gently helped me to ground myself, understand why I feel the way that I do and explore ways to change my life.”
"Jack holds space in a loving and kind way. Her presence is supportive, calming and encouraging. The way she combines her compassionate inquiry work with her work as a Yoga and movement coach is beautiful. She guides you in a way that makes you feel safe to walk into the unknown and explore things about yourself that will help you overcome blockages and make space for the loving soul that you are."
“Jack skillfully and with kindness, helped me take some time to reflect on deeper feelings and memories that affect me.
Ultimately, seeing my life through a different lens.
A powerful approach which I'm grateful to her for.”
“Due to trauma in childhood I have lived much of my life disconnected from my true myself, my feelings and my intuition. Beginning to explore Compassionate Inquiry with Jack has given me a space to gently try to find that connection. We practice noticing how we feel without judgement and without try to fix it. Sometimes this feels really scary and overwhelming but it is Jack is really good at creating a space where you have choice to step away and keep yourself safe. On days where it feels ok to do so we sit with what we are feeling rather than trying to push it away or distract from it.
I think the most beneficial thing we have done so far is focusing on where we feel certain things in our bodies. For example, what does 'yes' feel like in our bodies compared to what 'no' feels like. I have found this really helpful when making decisions as I used to struggle to feel anything outside of anxiety and a need to people please.
Noticing more has also helped me work out which relationships and activities are draining and which are nourishing.
I really like the fact that Jack makes it clear that she has done this work herself because I know she genuinely knows how scary it can be and would never judge me for my choices. This makes me feel safe to explore things without feeling I have to people please and push myself to far too fast."
"I can't explain every benefit of this work yet but I know I feel more compassionate towards myself and particularly my younger self than ever and I am very thankful for that. “
